Spain is stepping up its commitment to the energy transition with a new funding initiative that could channel up to €400 million into the production of renewable hydrogen. The funding comes under the framework of the Important Project of Common European Interest (IPCEI) focused on hydrogen, aiming to position Spain as a key player in the decarbonisation of industry across Europe.

What is this funding for?

The initiative will support industrial-scale projects for the production and integration of renewable hydrogen, helping to reduce emissions in hard-to-abate sectors such as chemicals, refining, steel, and heavy transport.

The aid package will focus on:

  • Promoting innovative hydrogen production technologies

  • Facilitating the scaling up of electrolyzers

  • Supporting infrastructure development for storage and distribution

  • Encouraging cross-border collaboration within the EU

What’s next?

The call is part of Spain’s contribution to the European hydrogen value chain, aligned with both national and EU green goals. The funding will be managed by the Institute for Energy Diversification and Saving (IDAE) and is expected to be launched in the coming months.

This move strengthens Spain’s strategic position in the renewable hydrogen race and signals a major opportunity for companies and innovators working toward a clean energy future.
