The EIC Accelerator is evolving in 2026 with a stronger technical focus, more
evaluation rigor, and a more flexible submission calendar — while keeping both the
Open Call and the Strategic Challenge Calls, dedicating a total of €634 million in grants
and equity investment.
Key updates
Six annual cut-off dates for full proposals
A new bi-monthly schedule introduces six cut-offs for full proposals (January,
March, May, July, September, and November), giving innovative SMEs more
flexibility when planning their submissions.
Earlier and stronger technical due diligence
A major change for 2026 is the introduction of a reinforced technical due-
diligence assessment during the evaluation of full proposals - not after selection.
This ensures that feasibility, scalability and technological robustness are
validated before projects reach the final decision stage.
Open Call (€414 million)
The Open Call remains the main entry point for breakthrough deep-tech
innovations and continues to receive a larger budget than the thematic
challenges.
Five strategic deep-tech challenges (€220 million)
In 2026, the EIC will prioritise projects aligned with the following challenge
areas:
o Advanced materials for energy and storage
o Fusion-related technologies
o Soil-regeneration biotechnology
o Critical raw materials
o Climate-adaptation technologies.
What this means for applicants
Projects must now demonstrate strong evidence of feasibility, scalability, and an
investable business strategy. Early-stage ideas without validation will no longer be
competitive under the strengthened evaluation criteria.
In summary, EIC Accelerator 2026 offers more structure and opportunities but also
demands stronger technical validation and investment-ready proposals.
